I think the best way to describe the tour operators participation in this years event is overkill. Whereas last year most companies entered 1 team this year both
Scott Dunn and
Ski Higher entered three, New Gen entered 2 (containing the female contingent of last years successful Freeride team). These were joined by
Supertravel, the Jump and
Powder white.
Champion champignons From the start it was clear that last years champions, The Magic Mushrooms, where the team to beat (again). Within 7 seconds of the starting buzzer of their first match they had already scored their first goal, eventually dispatching their first victims 5-1. But enough about these lamb burning socialists.
Superheros Possibly the best dressed were Team Nice led by Jump barman Pete Beilby aka Captain America. After a solid 1-0 opening victory their second match against
Ski Higher La Tania ended in a draw which resulted in a head to head shootout between Abby(private chalet) and Kara(SHLT). With the first round being too close to call it was left to Abby to clinch the victory with her second effort. Unfortunately they came up against stiffer competition in the quarterfinals and despite PeteÃs brother levelling the score from the middle of the court they eventually lost 2-1.
Internal rivalries The biggest grudge match on the ice had to be SkiHigher team 1 versus SkiHigher team 2. After both teams won their opening matches they were ready to meet each other in the second round. The question was could Ben, the young wipper snapper take on his boss, Simon, the seasoned grey one? Unfortunately Not. Despite a very physical match it was SimonÃs team who drew first blood and in spite of Bens best efforts a second goal was planted in the back of his net sealing his defeat and giving gloating rights to Simon for the foreseeable future.
