Summer wouldn't be summer with out unseasonably cold and wet weather.

Due to a scheduled fight with a Lion over the weekend, this weeks newsletter will come out a few days earlier. (and has nothing to do with skiing either)

Anyone who follows F1 racing with have heard that next year BBC will lose it exclusive coverage rights to the 2012 F1 season. Instead of showing all the races live it will now only show 10 races live and the rest will be shown on an “extended” highlights show the following evening.

After seeing the way Sky TV has dealt with other motorsport like DTM and hearing about their (FOX) coverage over in the USA it doesn't fill me with confidence about F1. But instead of complaining about how much it would cost to take out a sky HD subscription with the sport package. (£30.50 per month on top of a normal sky subscription). Or which group of pundits they will have commentate on the race. No doubt knowing sky they will pick someone, like ITV did, who knows more about football than F1, like Jim Rosental to front the show. Or which of the existing excellent BBC team will they poach with an offer they can’t refuse? I would like to ask what 10 races would you like to see live?

Well let’s start with most of the European races.

  1. British GP – Silverstone – No brainer really. Can you imagine the BBC not televising wimbledon live?
  2. Belgium GP – Spa – Always an interesting race with guaranteed rain etc.
  3. Italian GP – Monza – A classic race.
  4. Monaco GP – Monaco - Not the most interesting but this is my list.
  5. German GP - Hockenheim – More interesting than the Nurbergring.

I’ve left out Hungary and Valencia because they’re usuallly boring a hell and could easily be watched in highlight form.

So now we have the flyaway races. The major problem is most of these happen in different time zones and so are not televised at the usual 2PM slot. The races over in the American continents already happen at 6pm so any highlights would have to be shown at night or the day after. So we better have them live.

  1. Canada GP - Montreal - This years was ok.
  2. USA GP – Austin Texas – An unknown quantity but I will give it the benefit of the doubt.
  3. Brazil GP – Sao Paulo – Final race with at the end of November will guarantee monsoon conditions. That leaves the mid-east, far east races, and Australia.
  4. Indian GP – An unknown track – In April it will either be very hot or very wet.
  5. Singapore GP – raced under lights at night so will be shown at a sensible time.
So there you have it those are the races I would like to see live. I’m sure the BBC will choose a different 10.
